Artsakh state minister calls for revision of economic priorities amid ongoing Azerbaijani blockade

YEREVAN, January 27. /ARKA/. The huge negative impact and difficulties caused by Azerbaijani blockade of the only road linking Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) and Armenia also forces us to learn lessons, Artsakh State Minister Ruben Vardanyan said during his meetings with the heads and residents of Haterk, Drmbon and Vank communities of Martakert region.
Vardanyan explained that it is necessary to think not only about providing urgent vital needs of the population, but also about creating opportunities for the future by building a more efficient and rational system.
In this new situation, priorities are being revised: a number of sectors, such as agriculture, for example, and programs implemented in this sector to improve efficiency are becoming a key focus, according to Vardanyan.
Residents stressed that the blockade certainly creates many difficulties, but it cannot break their will.
Routine shipments of basic supplies, medicines, and food on which Nagorno-Karabakh is utterly dependent have remained completely shut off since last December 12 when Azerbaijan blocked the only road linking Karabakh and Armenia.
A handful of International Red Cross humanitarian convoys have been allowed to take medicines and some food from Armenia. The situation has become untenable for the 120,000 Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh.
Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev said earlier the road out was open to any Nagorno-Karabakh Armenian who wished to leave.-0-
