YEREVAN, July 12. / ARKA /. The Association Agreement Armenia is going to sign with the European Union will give a powerful push to development of its relations  with  EU,  French ambassador to Armenia, Henri Reynaud, told a news conference today.

Armenia and several other former Soviet republics are expected to initial their respective association agreements and deep and comprehensive free trade area agreements with EU at an Eastern Partnership summit slated for November this year in Vilnius, Lithuania.

"The Association Agreement between EU and Armenia is almost in the final stage. It has the economic and commercial component - I mean the agreement on deep and comprehensive free trade area", the ambassador said.

According to him, the agreement requires that Armenia brings its legislation into conformity with EU laws. He said apart from giving a strong boost to economic progress the agreements will improve the social situation in the country and open new jobs for young people.

The ambassador said the agreement will not become an obstacle to further development of relations between Armenia and Russia, noting that Russia is also an important partner for the EU. The Association Agreement will replace the current agreement on partnership and cooperation. -0-
