YEREVAN, July 21. /ARKA/. Armenia will be motivated to build a 42-km railway in the Syunik region only in the event of an agreement with Azerbaijan, said Nazeli Baghdasaryan, press secretary of the RA Prime Minister.

During an international media forum, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, speaking about the construction of the railway on the Azerbaijani side, to the border of Armenia and Iran, noted that the construction of the railway is almost complete. According to him, the Azerbaijani section of the railway will probably be fully built in less than a year, perhaps even in the spring of next year, adding that no work has been carried out on the Armenian side over the past five years, this issue is allegedly being deliberately removed from the agenda.

“Without the consent of Azerbaijan, this railway cannot be used even for domestic cargo transportation in Armenia. So, accusing Armenia of excluding the issue of unblocking regional communications from the agenda is completely unfounded,” Baghdasaryan noted in an interview with Armenpress.

She reported that immediately after reaching agreements with Azerbaijan, the construction of the said railway will begin. Preparatory work is already underway, such as the construction of a new road for the village of Nrnadzor, with which automobile communication is currently carried out along the former railway line.
