Delegations from more than 40 countries come to Tsitsernakaberd to remember Armenian Genocide victims

Delegations of countries, parliaments and international organizations as well as ambassadors to Armenia came to Tsitsernakaberd, the memorial to Armenian Genocide victims, to remember Armenians killed in atrocities committed by Ottoman Turks in 1915.
YEREVAN, April 24. /ARKA/. Delegations of countries, parliaments and international organizations as well as ambassadors to Armenia came today to Tsitsernakaberd, the memorial to Armenian Genocide victims, to remember Armenians killed in atrocities committed by Ottoman Turks in 1915.
President of Russia Vladimir Putin, President of France Francois Hollande, President of Serbia Tomislav Nikolic and President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades visited the memorial.
Swiss, Romanian, Polish, Chinese, Brazilian, Belarusian and Kyrgyz ambassadors were here as well. The head of OSCE office in Armenia, the chairman of Armenian delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross, the head of the European Union Delegation in Armenia, the deputy chairman of the European Parliament, the secretary general of Collective Security Treaty Organization, the head of UN Geneva Office, the head of the European People’s Party and the deputy chairman of CIS Cooperation Committee visited the memorial.
Representatives of parliaments of Israel, Iran, Estonia, Latvia, the Czech Republic, Chile, Bulgaria, Belgium, Syria, Greece and Cyprus as well as officials from governments of Uruguay, Germany, Jordan, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Malta, Canada, Lebanon, Argentina and Sweden were in Tsisternakaberd. Diplomats from Kuwait, Japan, Kazakhstan, India, Slovenia, Portugal, Norway, the Netherlands, Ireland, Finland, Denmark and Croatia were here as well. This year Armenia marks the centenary of the Armenian Genocide.
The Armenian Genocide was the first genocide of the twentieth century. According to Armenian and many other historians, up to 1.5 million Armenians were killed starting in 1915 in a systematic campaign by the government of Turkey. Turkey has been denying it for decades.
The Armenian genocide was recognized by tens of countries. The first was Uruguay that did so in 1965.
Other nations are Russia, France, Italy, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Poland, Lithuania, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Greece, Cyprus, Lebanon, Canada, Venezuela, Argentina, 43 U.S. states. It was recognized also by the Vatican, the European Parliament, the World Council of Churches and other international organizations. ---0-----
