Deputy editor-in-chief of Le Figaro reproaches EU for tacit approval of Azerbaijani cultural genocide in Nagorno-Karabakh

YEREVAN, February 4. /ARKA/. Jean-Christophe Buisson, deputy editor-in-chief of Le Figaro, one of the major French newspapers, criticized EU’s plans to develop cooperation with Baku in the energy sector amid Azerbaijan's cultural genocide against the Armenian heritage in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).
"Azerbaijan plans to destroy traces of Armenian heritage in Artsakh/Nagorno-Karabakh by allegedly restoring the puppet "Albanian" culture... This is a planned cultural genocide!" Buisson wrote on his Twitter.
He stressed that Azerbaijan continues the cultural genocide of the Armenian heritage in Artsakh, but there is no reaction to it (neither by the French government, nor UNESCO) and the EU welcomes the energy partnership with Baku.
Buisson reposted a tweet by European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Olivér Várhelyi, following a meeting with Azerbaijani Presidential advisor Hikmet Hajiyev. They discussed strengthening the energy partnership between the EU and Azerbaijan, the situation in the South Caucasus and EU support.
The deputy editor-in-chief of Le Figaro expressed disgust over another report about the meeting of the European Commission's Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
"It is disgusting to see the European Commission strengthening relations with the Azerbaijani autocrat Aliyev, whose actions are aimed at destroying Armenians, their history, their churches, their heritage in Artsakh/Nagorno Karabakh. What a shame... it is disgusting," said Buisson.
Earlier European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson said after talks in Baku with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev that the EU and Azerbaijan would intensify dialogue on increasing gas supplies to EU. According to her, Azerbaijan has made a step forward, confirming its reliability and excellent partnership. --0--
