ECHR rejects Armenia's application for a new interim measure against Azerbaijan in Vagif Khachaturyan case

YEREVAN, August 30. /ARKA/. The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has rejected Armenia's application for a new interim measure against Azerbaijan in the case of Vagif Khachatryan, Armenia’s representative on international legal affairs said in a Facebook post.

At the same time, the ECHR noted in its ruling that its September 20, 2020 decision on application of the interim measure, extended on November 3 of the same year, by virtue of which Azerbaijan undertakes to fulfil its Convention obligations, remains in force.

The European Court also ordered Azerbaijan to provide information about Vagif Khachatryan's general condition and ongoing criminal proceedings.

Vagif Khachatryan, a 68-year-old citizen of Nagorno-Karabakh, accompanied by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), was travelling to Yerevan for medical treatment and was abducted on July 29 by Azerbaijani border guards at an illegally established checkpoint in the Lachin corridor.

Khachatryan is accused by Azerbaijan of killing and deporting ethnic Azerbaijani residents of Karabakh back in 1991.-0-
