YEREVAN, April 9. /ARKA/. President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan stated Tuesday he considers the state’s and nation’s economic development as number one priority for the forthcoming five years.
“A whole array of problems that Armenia is facing is within this aspect. Let me highlight three main ones: emigration, unemployment, and poverty. The solutions to these problems are to be found within the same aspect as well. Efficient economy that is on the rise, this is the formula to our success,”
Sargsyan said following his oath ceremony at Sport and Concert Hall after Karen Demirchyan in Yerevan.
The second priority, according to President, is to ensure the rule of law. Equality of everyone before the law is a binding prerequisite both for our economic and political advancement.
The third task, which is closely linked to the rule of law, is to enhance democracy in the republic.
“Compare Armenia of five years ago with Armenia of today, and you will see the difference. Compare freedom of speech, press, and rallies. Compare the past and present NGOs and the civil society as a whole,” Sargsyan appealed to people.
He promised “we will not be contented with the achievements. Five years from now, we will attain a qualitatively different, far more advanced democracy. I shall not accomplish this alone, we will do it together, dear compatriots.”
Newly elected president of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan was sworn in Tuesday to the second term at an extraordinary session of the National Assembly.
During the oath taking ceremony he swore to unreservedly adhere to the Constitution, to respect human and civil rights and freedoms, to safeguard independence of the Republic, its territorial integrity and security for the glory of the Republic of Armenia and for the benefit of the people of the Republic of Armenia
He took his oath on the Constitution and Gospel of VII century.
