European Union has not closed the door to Armenia - French ambassador
YEREVAN, October 29. / ARKA /. The European Union has not closed the door to Armenia and will continue to develop relations with it, French ambassador to Armenia, Henri Reynaud, told a news conference today.

The ambassador said Armenian authorities announced their intention to continue to cooperate with the EU in all directions.

The diplomat added that Armenia's membership in the Customs Union does not mean it can not cooperate in other directions, for example, in human rights,  rule of law,  legal sphere which are not in the mandate of the Russia-led Customs Union.

"The decision of Armenia to join the Customs Union is a sovereign decision of the state, prompted by its national interests, which are worthy of respect," said the ambassador.

He recalled that the Armenian authorities favor preserving relations with all EU member states at all levels.

The diplomat noted that the EU is primarily a political structure. In this context, he said, cooperation between Armenia and the EU needs to be explored in depth. He also said he did not have information that Russia pressed Armenia into the Customs Union. -0-
