European Union to continue supporting development of civil society in Armenia

The Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle, speaking Thursday in Yerevan at a two-day EU seminar focused on the role of civil society and democratic governance, said European Union will continue supporting development of civil society in Armenia.
YEREVAN, September 27. /ARKA/. The Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle, speaking Thursday in Yerevan at a two-day EU seminar focused on the role of civil society and democratic governance, said European Union will continue supporting development of civil society in Armenia.
Stressing the importance of development of civil society in Armenia, he said that the EU will make every effort to promote it.
The Head of EU Delegation in Armenia Traian Cristea, who spoke at a seminar as well, said civil society plays an important part in politics, policy-making process and enhancement of the government’s accountability.
He said that the seminar will make ties between Armenian and foreign experts closer.
Štefan Füle arrived in Yerevan on Thursday for a one-day visit. He is set to sign here a program on financing preparations for implementation of the €43.1-million Armenia-EU Association Agreement is to be signed as part of his visit. -0---
