“Georgian Dream” not ruling out opening of Abkhazia railway: expert
YEREVAN, October 28. /ARKA/.  The “Georgian Dream” coalition is not ruling out opening of the railroad in Abkhazia, Georgian expert, director of Caucasus Research Resource Center (CRRC) Koba Turmanidze said in his online interview to Novosti-Armenia.

“Our recent poll in August 2013 showed 75% of people support this approach. But the opening of the railroad has a sense if all parties are interested in it”, the expert said adding that now Russia is reluctant to take the required steps for the opening.

Georgia’s prime-minister Bidzina Ivanishvili smade a statement during his visit to Yerevan in January 2013 about possibility of re-opening of the rail communication via Abkhazia ceased in the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict of 1992-1993, once disputable issues are settled with Russia.

The re-opening of the Abkhazian-Georgian section of the railroad is of strategic importance to Armenia as it is the shortest and the cheapest way to Russia.

Joint online press conferences on urgent issues involving leading experts from different countries are held as part of the project expansion of knowledge of Armenians and Azerbaijanis about each other and establishing mutual trust based on first-hand information. The project is held by the “Region” research center of Armenia and the Institute of Peace and Democracy of Azerbaijan supported by the embassies of Great Britain in Armenia and Azerbaijan. –0--
