Giumry violent crime as painful for Russians as for Armenians – expert
YEREVAN, January 23. /ARKA/. The Giumry tragedy is as painful for Russians, as for Armenians, head of the public relations at Russia Today international news agency, well-known radio presenter and blogger Armen Gasparyan said on air on Sputnik Armenia radio channel on Thursday.

On January 12, a family of six was killed in Giumry, near the place where the Russian military base N 102 is deployed. The only survivor six-month Serezha Avetisyan died in hospital on Monday. Russian conscript Valery Permyakov suspected of the killings was detained last Tuesday and admitted to the killings. Criminal charges were brought against Permyakov according to Article 104 of the Armenian criminal code (murdering two or more people).

The day after the killings people were going to the Armenian embassy in Moscow, taking flowers, feeling shock and pain, Gasparyan said.

The condolences from Russian officials and public figures were sincere and not a showoff, he said.

He said many twitted and asked him to tell Armenians on the air they share the grief.

In answering the question about late response of the Russian officials, Gasparyan said one should not make hasty statements in cases like this. But the expert community started talking about the case immediately, he added.

The response of the Western media to the tragedy was well prepared, standard clichés and even dirty tricks were used, Gasparyan said.

Asked about mass and social media allegations that the Russian military base should be withdrawn from Armenia, Gasparyan said has heard no such statement from any Armenian politician, even the most pro-Western ones. “Armenian people is wise, and it will make no fatal mistake like this”, the journalist said.

The murder trial should be held in Armenia in open, and no doubt, Permyakov will be sentenced to life term as there is no death penalty in Armenia or Russia, he said.

The journalist also said Russia and Armenia will continue developing their economic and cultural ties, despite West’s efforts to drive a wedge between allies.

For more effective investigation into the murder case, the heads of Armenia’s and Russia’s investigative committees Aghvan Hovsepyan and Alexandr Bastrikin signed an agreement earlier to set up a coordination office comprising of 10 representatives of the committee and criminalists. All the investigative measures will be taken in line with the international law and as per the military base agreement between Armenia and Russia.

The Russian side charged Permyakov with murdering two or more people and deserting with firearm. Criminal charges were brought against Permyakov according to Article 104 of the Armenian criminal code (murdering two or more people). –0--
