YEREVAN, May 19. /ARKA/. The head of Yerevan's Nor Nork administrative district Tigran Ter-Margaryan resigned after a recent scandalous incident in the prefecture.

On April 30, it became known about a fight in the Nor Nork prefecture and the beating of blogger and activist Artur Chakhoyan (he claimed to have information about a corruption scheme involving local authorities). According to videos that appeared on social networks, prefect Tigran Ter-Margaryan participated in the fight. Chakhoyan was hospitalized and became a defendant in a criminal case.

"The provocation that took place recently in the Nor Nork administrative district and the actions that followed it became the subject of wide discussion and reached the number 1 instance of the Republic of Armenia, where my person began to be discussed. And in the name of the mandate, such phenomena, which have spread from one “camp” to another, have given rise to the discussion of my line of conduct,” Ter-Margaryan noted at a working meeting of the mayor’s office on Monday.

He expressed confidence that the subject of speculation will also be “that I, as the head of the Nor Nork administrative district, will hinder the course of the trial.”

“Therefore, from today I am suspending my powers as the head of the Nor Nork district,” he said.

Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan welcomed Ter-Margaryan’s decision, stating the need to be vigilant in conditions “when we are constantly and continuously provoked,” emphasizing that brute force cannot be used in the event of provocations.

"There are other methods, criminal-legal methods, and I believe that if people in certain places show disrespectful attitude towards officials, which will already be covered by a number of articles of the Criminal Code, I assure you that all our attention will be paid to such a line of behavior," Avinyan said.

Earlier, the Investigative Committee reported that, in connection with the fight in the Nor-Nork prefecture, criminal prosecution was initiated against two people under the article "On hooliganism", and four citizens are being prosecuted under the signs of "Physical influence on the part of a group of persons". -0-
