Josep Borrell announces decision to launch new ambitious agenda for Armenia-EU relations

YEREVAN, February 13. /ARKA/. The EU's foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan led today the talks in Brussels to discuss cooperation between Armenia and the 27-country bloc.

The summit was the fifth meeting of the EU-Armenia Partnership Council, first held in 2018.

The two sides discussed the potential for a "dialogue" on liberalizing the visa regime between the EU and Armenia. Also on the agenda were political reform, democracy, the rule of law and human rights, as well as economic and trade cooperation.

'It has been decided to launch a new ambitious agenda of cooperation between the EU and Armenia, taking into account the desire for increased cooperation expressed earlier by the Armenian Prime Minister,' Josep Borrell said at a joint press conference with Ararat Mirzoyan.

"Armenia-EU relations are developing in a positive way. We discussed the full range of our relations within the framework of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement between the European Union and Armenia," Borrell said, adding that the potential of these relations has not been exhausted yet.

He said the expansion of cooperation in the spheres of trade, energy (nuclear) and aviation security was discussed.

"We support Armenia's aspiration to participate in the Black Sea Electric Cable project and other communication regional projects," Borrell said, noting that these projects contribute to peace in the region. -0-
