Nalbandian: Armenia to take into account OSCE/ODIHR proposals
YEREVAN, February 9. /ARKA/. The Armenian authorities will take into account the proposals made by the Warsaw-based OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) concerning last December 6 constitutional referendum, foreign minister Edward Nalbandian said today.

Election experts from the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights had criticized the authorities’ handling of the constitutional referendum, singling out “serious problems” with vote counts at polling stations visited by them.’ In a report  they also criticized the Armenian authorities for using “considerable public funds” to secure a disputed “Yes” vote for the constitutional changes initiated by the ruling Republican Party of Armenia’s  constitutional amendments.

Speaking at a joint news conference with visiting Swedish foreign minister Margot Wallström Nalbandian said  today although ODIHR does not watch the conduct of referenda the Armenian authorities had invited its election experts to secure that the referendum pass as transparent as possible.

According to him, in general, Armenia is interested in further cooperation with the OSCE / ODIHR, and the authorities are ready to consider all the proposals regarding the conduct of the December 6 referendum.

Earlier the chairman of the Central Election Commission of Armenia Tigran Mukuchyan claimed that the OSCE / ODIHR report contained unverified information, rumors, as well as conclusions built on media stories and reports. -0-
