YEREVAN, October 13. /ARKA/. New economic charges have been brought against Tashir Group president and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan, who has been in custody in Armenia for approximately 110 days, his lawyers announced.

According to a statement from the Tashir Group president's legal team, the new economic charges "lack a minimum legal and legitimate basis."

The lawyers note that the investigative body is taking no action involving Samvel Karapetyan, rejecting his lawyer's motions for procedural action, and continuing to pursue the economic charges, essentially ignoring binding court decisions.

It is also noted that the public promise of retribution against Samvel Karapetyan on social media on June 17, 2025, and the instructions given to law enforcement agencies are indisputable evidence of his political persecution.

About the criminal prosecution of Samvel Karapetyan

Samvel Karapetyan has been under arrest since June 18, accused of publicly calling for the seizure of power. This occurred after Karapetyan, following a meeting with Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II, stated that he had always supported the Armenian Church and the Armenian people, and if politicians were unsuccessful, "we are ready to participate in all of this in our own way." Karapetyan denies the charges against him.
