YEREVAN, March 22. /ARKA/. If the outgoing president Serzh Sargsyan is elected as new prime minister of Armenia he will not reshuffle the Cabinet, political scientist Vigen Hakobyan said to a news conference today.
He said Serzh Sargsyan may replace some current members of the government but the bulk of the Cabinet will be preserved.
He predicted that ministers dealing with economic issues will keep their jobs. As for prime minister Karen Karapetyan, Hakobyan said he will be appointed as first deputy prime minister.
"I do not think that Serzh Sargsyan and Karen Karapetyan have serious disagreements that could lead to interpersonal conflicts," he said.
According to him, changes may affect Cabinet members dealing with other than economy issues, but here
there are some restrictions which should be observed as part of a power-sharing agreement with the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) – the junior partner of the governing Republican Party of Armenia.
The process of nominating candidates for the post of head of the government starts on April 9 and will end on April 16. In April Armenia is switching from the semi-presidential form of government to a parliamentary republic. The post of president becomes largely ceremonial, while the real executive power will be vested in the prime minister. -0-
