Parliament discusses establishment of Anti-Corruption Committee

YEREVAN, January 19. /ARKA/. The Armenian parliament discussed on Monday a government's proposal to establish Anti-Corruption Committee.
Justice Minister Rustam Badasyan told MPs that the main jurisdiction of the committee will be the organization of pre-trial criminal proceedings for alleged corruption crimes. Also, according to the minister, the committee will carry out operational and search measures.
According to Badasyan, the committee will be staffed through open contests with the personnel who have undergone appropriate professional training.
He also said that in connection with the creation of the Anti-Corruption Committee, there will be a need to reduce the staffing of other bodies.
At a meeting on December 3, 2020, the Armenian government approved a large package of legislative amendments in connection with the formation of the Anti-Corruption Committee. The Anti-Corruption Committee, in fact, will become the second law enforcement body after the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption to investigate corruption crimes. -0-
