YEREVAN, March 10. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has petitioned President Armen Sarkissian to appoint Artak Davtyan as Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Pashinyan's press secretary Mane Gevorgyan told Armenpress.

Artak Davtyan is replacing Onik Gasparyan, who was sacked earlier by Pashinyan for demanding his resignation..

On March 9 it emerged that Defense Minister Vagharshak Harutyunyan appointed Artak Davtyan as senior officer on special assignments.

Artak Davtyan, who was earlier appointed by Pashinyan as Chief of General Staff of Armenia's Armed Forces, was sacked last summer because of hosting his son’s wedding party despite the state of emergency announced earlier last year to contain the spread of the virus.

According to mass media reports, the wedding was attended by about 100 guests in violation of social distancing rules set by the government.

On July 16, 2020, Nikol Pashinyan appointed Davtyan as head of the Military-Industrial Committee. On November Pashinyan dismissed him. -0-
