Pashinyan to Putin: Karabakh conflict not resolved yet

YEREVAN, October 12. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow today that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict remains unresolved.

"Of course, personal meetings are helpful for achieving the desired result. I hope it will be so this time. We will talk in a formal and informal atmosphere, will have lunch together and discuss current affairs and talk about the prospects," the Russian president said.

Pashinyan stressed, in turn, that frequent meetings testify to the high dynamics of Russian-Armenian relations and mutual understanding of the importance of strategic allied relations.

“Now we have dynamic processes in the region and, in general, in the world, and it is very important that the allies often meet and talk. The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict remains unresolved and it is clear that Russia plays a key role in resolving the conflict and in ensuring security in our region and it is also a co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group. All these issues are very important. And I am very pleased to discuss this entire agenda with you," Pashinyan said.

On September 27, 2020, Azerbaijani armed forces, backed by Turkey and foreign mercenaries and terrorists, attacked Nagorno-Karabakh along the entire front line using rocket and artillery weapons, heavy armored vehicles, military aircraft and prohibited types of weapons such as cluster bombs and  phosphorus weapons.

After 44 days of the war, on November 9, the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a statement on the cessation of all hostilities. According to the document, the town of Shushi, the districts of Agdam, Kelbajar and Lachin were handed over to Azerbaijan, with the exception of a 5-kilometer corridor connecting Karabakh with Armenia.

A Russian peacekeeping contingent was deployed along the contact line in Karabakh and along the Lachin corridor. -0-
