Political analysts says likelihood of another Azeri offensive is high
YEREVAN, April 26. /ARKA/. Sergey Minasyan, a political analyst at the Yerevan-based Caucasus Institute, says the likelihood that Azerbaijan may begin another large-scale military operation in Nagorno-Karabakh is high.

Speaking to a news conference today Minasyan said another operation to seize back parts of land in Nagorno-Karabakh is supported also by a sizeable portion of Azerbaijani population.

‘However, if the authorities of Azerbaijan realized the price of what happened on the line of contact on April 2-5 , the situation would return to the unstable status quo of neither peace nor war, low intensity conflict with protracted settlement process,’ said Minasyan.

Minasyan said there is also a third option - if Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh are able in a very short time to restore or change the military-technical balance in their favor, and the leadership of Azerbaijan  makes the right conclusions from their failed offensive, the escalation may ease and an attempt to achieve political agreement would be made.

"This option is the least likely, therefore, it is necessary for Armenian authorities to evaluate the possibility of the first and second options," Minasyan said. -0-
