Prime Minister: Armenia diversifies its foreign relations in all areas - from economics to security

YEREVAN, February 5. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that Armenia is diversifying its foreign relations in all areas.

"We continue to be a member of the Eurasian Economic Union. I would describe our relations within the EAEU as normal; it is functioning, and we operate within its framework. On the other hand, we have frozen our membership in the CSTO, which had been our main security partner," Pashinyan said during his speech at the Atlantic Council in Washington. He explained that the reason for this decision was the CSTO's failure to fulfill its security obligations to Armenia.

The Prime Minister stated that Armenia is currently in the process of diversifying its foreign relations across all sectors—from the economy to security.

"It is well known that we are strengthening our relations with the European Union. Since 2022, a civilian observation mission has been deployed along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, marking the first time the EU has been involved in Armenia’s security agenda. We have also recently started a dialogue on visa liberalization with the EU and hope to conclude it as soon as possible," Pashinyan said.

He also highlighted that the EU has included Armenia in the European Peace Facility, "which is also a very significant political decision."

"We have recently signed the Charter on Strategic Cooperation with the United States, which is another important decision. We hope to turn a new page in our relations with the United States. This opens up new opportunities for us, but, of course, it also brings new challenges," Pashinyan added.

According to him, official Yerevan is actively working on its foreign policy and continuing to implement a balanced and stabilizing foreign policy. "Frankly, I can say that despite all the challenges, we have been able to enhance our independence and sovereignty," he concluded.
