Putin: none of parties to Karabakh conflict interested in further development of crisis

YEREVAN, June 30. / ARKA / Speaking at his annual televised phone-in session on Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that none of the parties to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is interested in the further development of the crisis, according to TASS.

"Russia has played a certain role in resolving a very serious crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh. And no one is interested in its development - neither Azerbaijan, nor Armenia, nor, moreover, the residents of Nagorno-Karabakh," he said.

"If we all live peacefully, amicably, then we will create conditions for improving people's lives, and not only in terms of security, but also in terms of their current conditions. I mean the normal existence of families, I mean economic development, social development, in what undoubtedly, the people living in Karabakh are in high need. Because it is impossible to live all the time in anxiety fearing the conflict will resume. We perfectly understand this. So, the leaders of both Armenia and Azerbaijan understand this, " said Putin.

On September 27, 2020, Azerbaijani armed forces, backed by Turkey and foreign mercenaries and terrorists, attacked Nagorno-Karabakh along the entire front line using rocket and artillery weapons, heavy armored vehicles, military aircraft and prohibited types of weapons such as cluster bombs and  phosphorus weapons.

After 44 days of the war, on November 9, the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a statement on the cessation of all hostilities. According to the document, the town of Shushi, the districts of Agdam, Kelbajar and Lachin were handed over to Azerbaijan, with the exception of a 5-kilometer corridor connecting Karabakh with Armenia. 

A Russian peacekeeping contingent was deployed along the contact line in Karabakh and along the Lachin corridor. -0-
