YEREVAN, December 25. /ARKA/. Armenian presidential nominees will be selected in the period from December 25 to January 4, 2013, as per the schedule of the central electoral commission.

Armenia’s presidential elections are scheduled for February 18, 2013.

Registration of nominees is to take place between January 4 and January 14. The election campaign is to start from January 21 and to continue till February 16, 24:00. Candidates are allowed to reject their nominations by January 8, 18:00.

According to the schedule, voting protocols will be made public on February 25.

The current president of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan is the favorite. The Republican Party of Armenia nominated Sargsyan at its congress on December 15. Sargsyan’s campaign slogan will be “Towards secure Armenia”.

The current president has no serious competitors after the head of Prospering Armenia party Gagik Tsarukyan refused to run for president.
Former foreign minister, head of “Heritage” party Raffi Hovhannisian and ex-premier, leader of “Freedom” party Hrant Bagratyan have already announced their intention to run for president.

Former Armenian president Levon Ter-Petrosyan who was the main rival of the current president Serzh Sargsyan in the previous elections still keeps silence.-0-
