Serzh Sargsyan: most important problem is to unite the split society

YEREVAN, June 20. /ARKA/. Former president Serzh Sargsyan, whose Republican Party of Armenia (HAK) is contesting today's snap parliamentary elections in an alliance with Homeland party of former chief of the National Security Service Artur Vanetsyan, said the most important problem is to unite the split society.

"With a split society, nothing can be achieved - neither security, nor economic progress. Let's see what will happen based on the results of the elections," Sargsyan said to reporters after casting his vote.

According to him, the current elections are very different from all previous ones, so now it is impossible to make any predictions.

"I had made my choice 33 years ago, and today my attitude has not changed. I voted for a secure, sovereign, economically developed Armenia and Artsakh, for a powerful Armenian army, for the inviolability of our borders and for the reconciliation of our society," said Sargsyan.

Asked about a possible coalition with one of the political forces, running in the polls, the ex-president noted that it will be possible to talk about it based on the results of the elections.

As for violations, according to him, the entire law enforcement system, especially in the last days of campaigning, was engaged in the use of brute force against their alliance.

"Incomprehensible summoning to police stations, illegal searches, without court decisions, illegal detentions and so on. We have been closely following the development of events since the morning, and I think that in the middle of the day we will make an interim statement, and the final one after the vote ", Sargsyan said.

Armenia is holding early elections to the National Assembly today with 21 political parties and 4 electoral blocs competing for the seats in the National Assembly. -0-
