Several investigative versions are put forward in the case of October 27, 1999 terrorist act in the Armenian Parliament - General Prosecutor's Office

YEREVAN, October 27. /ARKA/. Several investigative versions have been put forward and several dozens of people have been questioned in 2022 and 2023 after Armenian prosecutors resumed the investigation into the terrorist act committed in the Armenian Parliament on October 27, 1999, the Armenian Prosecutor General's Office said.
It said based on the decisions of the body handling the proceedings, personal files of many officials have been seized, as well as criminal proceedings of special interest as part of the case have been carried out.
During the preliminary investigation many video and audio recordings have also been seized and expert examinations have been initiated, which are still underway.
The Prosecutor General's Office noted that appropriate actions are being taken to clarify all the circumstances of the terrorist act, as well as to ensure a comprehensive, complete and objective investigation of the case.
On October 27, 1999, a group of terrorists led by Nairi Hunanyan stormed into the session hall of the National Assembly and shot at point-blank range the heads and members of the parliament and the government.
Their trial lasted from 2001 to 2003, the prosecution demanded capital punishment, but the death penalty was abolished in Armenia in September 2003.
Six terrorists were sentenced to life imprisonment, including group leader Nairi Hunanyan, his brother Karen Hunanyan, their uncle Vram Galstyan (died in prison in 2004, official version of death is suicide - ed.), Derenik Bejanyan, Edik Grigoryan (died in November 2017 - ed.) and Ashot Knyazyan. Another member of the group Hamlet Stepanyan was sentenced to 14 years in prison (died in May 2010, according to the medical examination - from a heart attack - ed.). -0-
