YEREVAN, November 20. / ARKA /. A spokesman for the Armenian foreign ministry, Tigran Balayan, has confirmed that Turkish and Azerbaijani foreign ministers will arrive in Yerevan to attend a meeting of foreign ministers of the countries which make the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) organization.
According to Turkish and Azerbaijani media reports, Mehmet Davutoglu of Turkey and Elmar Mammadyarov of Azerbaijan were invited to attend the gathering scheduled for December 12 in the Armenian capital city.
Balayan said today in his Facebook posting that invitations to participate in the 29th meeting were sent to all BSEC member countries.
The Black Sea Economic Cooperation organization with headquarters in Istanbul, Turkey, is an intergovernmental organization consisting of 12 member states. It was founded in 1999. BSEC member countries are Armenia, Azerbaijan, Albania, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine. Armenia took over its rotating chairmanship on June 21.
Armenia and Turkey have no diplomatic relations. The border between the two countries has been closed since 1993 by Ankara. Complicated relations between the countries result particularly from Ankara’s support to Azerbaijan over the Karabakh conflict and Turkey’s denial of the 1915 Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire. -0-
