YEREVAN, July 26. /ARKA/. Armenia’s police department has released a statement in connection with the Monday night incident in the territory of the police regiment seized by a group of armed insurgents in Yerevan.

A police car in the seized territory started moving toward the police cordon, the police say in the statement.

In their words, the car came close to the cordon and the police fired at the car’s engine to stop the car and prevent a real threat from the armed people.

The car lied on one side and shots were fired from it. After that the police fired at wheels. Shots were fired from the car in response, but the police didn’t fire again.

As a result, two of the three men in the car were wounded in their legs and the car withdrew.

The police called an ambulance car offering to take the wounded men to hospital. The insurgents responded with consent.

“Now the two wounded men are in a hospital,” the police department reports. “Their names are Ashot Petrosyan and Hovhannes Harutyunyan.”

Sasna Tsrer, the group of revolted men, issued their own statement on their page in Facebook.

Around 2:00, shots came from the police cordon wounding two members of the group – Ashot Petrosyan and Hovhannes Harutyunyan, who were taken to hospital.

The insurgents also said that Arthur Sargsyan, a citizen, breaking the police cordon in his personal car early morning, at 7:00, delivered them meals. The police fired at him, but fortunately Arthur was not wounded and everything ended successfully.

Sasna Tsrer also says in their statement that in the police regiment territory secret lists were found which give grounds for concluding that these are agents and prostitutes’ names and that officers of the police regiment engaged in pandering.

“As many as 146 presumed pimps and 35 prostitutes are included in the list,” the statement says.

Sasna Tsrer stormed the police regiment territory on July 17 and took some officers hostage, demanding the release of Zhirayr Sefilian, the jailed opposition leader of Founding Parliament movement, and the resignation of the president.

According to the police, one police officer had been killed and five others and one attacker wounded in the assault.

Two top police officials, Armenian Deputy Police Chief Vardan Egiazaryan and Yerevan Deputy Police Chief Valeri Osipyan, were among the captured officers.

Hundreds of people gathered around the building to bar the law enforcement units from storming the building and to prevent а bloody outcome. The police units cleaned up the territory of demonstrators Wednesday night and detained dozens of people.

As many as 51 people injured in the clashes, including 28 policemen, received medical services that night. On the next day people gathered again.

All the hostages have gradually been released by the rebels.

On Monday, thousands of people in Yerevan took to the streets and marched demanding the release of Zhirair Sefilian and the resignation of the president. --0----
