Mirzoyan: No mechanism in EAEU documents to expel Armenia from the union
YEREVAN, October 16. /ARKA/. The founding documents of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) do not provide for a mechanism allowing one state to expel another from the organization. This was stated by Ararat Mirzoyan, Armenia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, while speaking to journalists on Friday about the possibility of the republic’s expulsion from the EAEU.

"We are a member of the EAEU and operate within the framework of the organization; no new agreement is required. What do you mean when you say we could be expelled, for instance? Have you read the EAEU documents? Do you think it states there that one country can expel another?" Mirzoyan said.

The Foreign Minister emphasized that when discussing potential scenarios, one must proceed based on the provisions of the organization's founding documents, even though various events may unfold globally.

Commenting on Armenia's relations with its EAEU partners, the minister pointed to a consensus on many issues and the positive nature of their contacts.

"There is agreement on many issues. There is also agreement on certain issues regarding the EAEU," he stated.

Touching upon the prospects of Armenia's EAEU membership, Mirzoyan noted that a decision on the matter would eventually have to be made by the people of the republic. However, he added that there is currently no need to make a specific decision.

"We are considering various issues. I do not think we need to make any specific decision right now," the minister emphasized.
