YEREVAN, October 15. /ARKA/. The border between Armenia and Turkey could open before the two sides agree on new negotiators, stated Ararat Mirzoyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia.
"When a candidate for a new negotiator emerges, we will announce it. Frankly speaking, it remains an open question whether a new negotiator is even needed. It is quite possible that the border could open before any new negotiators are agreed upon," Mirzoyan noted during a joint press conference with Ignazio Cassis, the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and Head of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.
He mentioned that representatives from Armenia and Turkey remain in contact almost daily, and that the bilateral dialogue is ongoing.
"The ultimate goal is the formal establishment of diplomatic relations and the full opening of the border—neither of which exists at present. The process has matured to such a point that a final and comprehensive settlement could occur on any given day, and it would be entirely natural," Mirzoyan declared.
