U.S. deputy assistant secretary: USA to continue the support development programs in Armenia

USA will continue in future to support development programs in Armenia, said U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary Eric Rubin during the meeting with Prime Minister of Armenia Tigran Sargsyan, press-service of the Armenian government informs.

YEREVAN, January 28. /ARKA/. USA will continue in future to support development programs in Armenia, said U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary Eric Rubin during the meeting with Prime Minister of Armenia Tigran Sargsyan, press-service of the Armenian government informs.
 
Rubin arrived in Armenia in the period January 17-28 to discuss issues of Europe and Eurasia.
 
He welcomed the activity of the Armenian government in the effective management of the country’s economy and said that the U.S. is ready to continue cooperation withArmenia in the direction of implementation of the second phase of the program of corporation “Millennium challenge”.
 
Implementation of the second phase of five-year program “Millennium challenge-Armenia” with investments of about $177 million has been officially finished at the end of September 2011.
 
The program of the corporation was targeted at the reduction of rural poverty through rehabilitation of irrigation infrastructures essential for Armenia, as well as provision of financial support and consultations to the farmers, representatives of processing sector and management structures of irrigation system.
 
“As the first phase of the program was implemented successfully in Armenia, we should do everything for the continuation of the conducted activities”, said Rubin.
 
As for the regional problems, Rubin said that the U.S. will continue publicly and through personal conversations to call Turkey for normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations, opening the border for the establishment of transport and railway communication with Armenia.
 
During the meeting the parties discussed also the issue of struggle against corruption, education, IT and other issues.
 
Sargsyan expressed hope that productive cooperation with Rubin will continue.–0--
