YEREVAN, September 14. / ARKA /. David Lidington, UK State Minister, Minister for Europe of British Foreign Office, will visit Armenia on September 17-19, the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry told ARKA. Details of the visit were discussed today with Armenian ambassador to London Karine Ghazinyan, it said.
The two sides discussed issues related to the development and deepening of bilateral cooperation, the ministry added.
Ghazinyan spoke also about the Ramil Safarov case and presented Armenia’s position on it.
Ramil Safarov, an Azerbaijani army Lt., was given a life sentence in 2006 by the Budapest City Court after he confessed to hacking to death Lieutenant Gurgen Markarian of Armenia in his sleep. The incident happened while both were in Hungary for a 2004 language course of the NATO military alliance. Safarov was extradited by Hungarian authorities to Azerbaijan and as soon as he arrived at the Baku airport, he received an official pardon from Azerbaijan’s president Ilham Aliyev. -0-
