YEREVAN, March 14. /ARKA/. The United States of America has welcomed the completion of negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan on a historic peace treaty, according to a statement on the US State Department’s website.

"This is an opportunity for both countries to turn the page on a decades-long conflict, in line with President Trump's vision for a more peaceful world. Now is the time to commit to peace, sign and ratify the treaty, and usher in a new era of prosperity for the people of the South Caucasus," the statement said.

On peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan

On March 13, the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the draft treaty "On the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan" had been agreed upon and that negotiations for its approval had been completed. The Ministry stated that the document was ready for signing and that Yerevan was prepared to begin consultations with Baku on the timing and location of its signing.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated on March 13 that the current content of the draft peace treaty with Azerbaijan can be considered a version of mutual concessions that is acceptable to Armenia. According to him, the two points of the draft treaty, on which the parties had previously struggled to reach agreement and eventually found a compromise, are: the non-deployment of third-country forces along the entire length of the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, as well as the mutual withdrawal of claims filed against each other in international courts and the non-implementation of actions against each other. The President of Azerbaijan had also previously highlighted these two points of disagreement.
