YEREVAN, December 25. /ARKA/. From September 27 to December 24, 2020, the National Security Service initiated and investigated more than 10 criminal cases of illegal acquisition, sale, exchange or carrying of weapons, ammunition, explosives or devices in connection with hostilities during the war, the press service of the National Security Service of Armenia reports.
In these criminal cases, criminal prosecutions were initiated against 18 people, 16 people were detained on suspicion of committing a crime, and in respect of 9 of whom arrest was chosen as a preventive measure.
The persons mentioned in the criminal cases as accused illegally transported or tried to transport mainly weapons and ammunition hidden in cars from Artsakh to Armenia, in some cases as part of a group by prior agreement with several persons.
The National Security Service calls on the participants in the hostilities who, during the war or after the establishment of the ceasefire, illegally brought weapons, ammunition, explosives and devices to Armenia, voluntarily hand them over to law enforcement agencies, so that, according to the law, this would serve as a basis for releasing them from criminal liability.
It is noted that in these cases, 4 machine guns, anti-tank grenade launchers with optical devices, 12 AK74, AKM, AK-SU and others, 13 mechanical fuses, 14 RGD grenades and electrical detonation devices were found and seized.
It also turned out that weapons, ammunition, explosives or devices were purchased in Artsakh and intended for military operations or used in them.
The National Ssecurity Service continues taking active search measures to find other possible weapons and ammunition illegally brought to Armenia from the battlefield, as well as to initiate criminal prosecution against those responsible.
