Armenian Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan considers it is necessary to introduce competitive funding mechanisms of universities.
YEREVAN, February 4. /ARKA/. Armenian Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan considers it is necessary to introduce competitive funding mechanisms of universities.
“It will promote three main principles of education – quality, access and efficiency which are directly connected with the improvement mechanisms of education funding”, said Ashotyan to the journalists on Friday during the seminar on the improvement of funding of universities in Aghveran.
Mechanism of competitive funding of universities is that they can apply to relevant bodies with their projects for getting state grants. Universities which give the best ideas and innovations will get relevant funding from state budget.
Summarization of certain results is very important for the universities providing high-quality education which will get funding. “In the result of introduction of these mechanisms re-licensed private universities can also get state funding”, said Ashotyan.
Three-day seminar organized by the Armenian Ministry of Education and Science is conducted in the frames of WB credit program “Quality and compliance of education”. Rectors of public and private universities of Armenia, representatives of a number of ministries, local and international experts participated in the seminar.
WB program “Quality and compliance of education” for 2009-2014 is targeted at the reforms in education sphere of Armenia. Its total cost is $31.26 million, of which $25 million are WB credit amounts, the remaining is co-funding from state budget of Armenia. --0--
