Armenian parliament allows Police to issue biometric id documents to refugees

The National Assembly of Armenia has approved today in the second and final reading a set of changes to the Law on Refugees and Asylum which vest the Police with the power to issue biometric ID documents to refugees.
YEREVAN, March 1, /ARKA/. The National Assembly of Armenia has approved today in the second and final reading a set of changes to the Law on Refugees and Asylum which vest the Police with the power to issue biometric ID documents to refugees.
Gagik Yeganian, head of the State Migration Service, an affiliation of the Territorial Administration Ministry, said the draft law specifies the authority of the Police Force in what is related to issuing travel documents to refugees.
He said previously refugees had two documents – refugee IDs and travel documents which were later merged into one document resembling the Armenian passport and refugees could use it both for internal and foreign trips.
He said new biometric passports to be issued by the Department of Visas and Passports of the Armenian Police Force, will have high level protection degree. -0-
