70 programs implemented in the amount of $1.5 million in NAS Armenia

In 2010, National Academy of Sciences (NAS) carried out 70 different programs in the amount of $1.5 million, President of NAS, academician Radik Martirosyan announced in the annual meeting of NAS on Friday.
YEREVAN, April 15. /ARKA/. In 2010, National Academy of Sciences (NAS) carried out 70 different programs in the amount of $1.5 million, President of NAS, academician Radik Martirosyan announced in the annual meeting of NAS on Friday. President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan participated in the meeting who was donated the first copy of the two-volume “History of Armenia” published in 2010.
Martirosyan said that annual salary of employees was 59.7 thousand drams. Last year increase of total funding of NAS was about 300 million drams. In particular, government funding of the Academy was over 4.1 billion drams, total amount of extra-budgetary funds – 1.9 billion drams (about 33% of total annual funding).
Currently, 4056 people work in the system of NAS, of which 66 - academicians, 62 – corresponding members, 334 – doctors of sciences, 126 – candidates of sciences and 979 scientific workers without degrees.
“In 2010 high level of fundamental studies was maintained in NAS branches which evidence in numerous papers published in prestigious international journals – 668 scientific articles, 12 monographs and 70 works by international programs”, said Martirosyan.
NAS worked with Russian Academy of Sciences, Hungarian, Belarus Academies of Sciences, as well as research centers of France, Germany and other countries.
Among the achievements of the last year Martirosyan noted the first international award named after Viktor Hambardzumyan to famous scientist Michel Meyer and members of his research group Nuno Santos and Garik Israyelyan.
The agenda of the meeting – reports of the Director of State Hermitage, corresponding member of Russian Academy of Sciences, foreign member of Armenian National Academy of Sciences Mikhail Piotrovski “Encyclopedic Museum of 21st century”, Director of Fundamental Scientific Library of NAS, Ph.D Tigran Zargaryan “Towards the information society: application of information technologies in fundamental Library of NAS”.
Members of the Armenian government, well-known scientists and rectors of universities participated in the event. –0—
