YEREVAN, October 24. / ARKA /. Next year’s draft budget has earmarked a 10.3 billion drams funding for science, a 7% increase from the 2011 figure, Samvel Harutyunian, the chairman of the State Committee on Science of the Ministry of Education and Science, said today.

Speaking at a news conference he said the increased funding will allow to increase the salaries of employees of the scientific sphere, and the remaining resources will be directed at enhancing international cooperation and innovative programs.

He said in the past the basic funding came from the government, but the current trend is to reduce its share to 75% and attract the remaining portion from private sector and as grants from international institutions.

According to Harutyunian, Armenia is gradually shifting to partner programs, including joint competition projects in the field of natural sciences and humanities. Harutyunian stressed the importance of attracting young scientists in science, saying a range of programs to that end are underway. ($1 - 377.98 AMD). -0-
