About 50% of public opinion poll respondents think Armenia on right economic track

About 46% of respondents in the first stage of the public opinion poll ordered by ArmNews TV Channel and conducted by Gallup Organization and Armenian Sociological Association think Armenia is on the right economic track, while 50% are stuck to the polar-opposite view, Rasa Alisauskiene, a member of Gallup Europe company’s directorial board, said Tuesday at a news conference.

YEREVAN, April 17. /ARKA/. About 46% of respondents in the first stage of the public opinion poll ordered by ArmNews TV Channel and conducted by Gallup Organization and Armenian Sociological Association think Armenia is on the right economic track, while 50% are stuck to the polar-opposite view, Rasa Alisauskiene, a member of Gallup Europe company’s directorial board, said Tuesday at a news conference. 

The first stage conducted fr om April 4 to 10 was aimed at showing public sentiments in Armenia ahead of the parliamentary elections and the second stage will be focused on the presidential election. 

As many as 1,018 people eligible to vote were surveyed. 

Alisauskiene said that things in Armenia look more optimistic than in many CIS member countries, wh ere more than 50% of respondents think that their countries have taken a wrong road. 

Besides, 47% of the people surveyed in Armenia are convinced that democracy in the country is quite developed, while 52% thinks otherwise. 

Alisauskiene said that Armenian citizens had pointed out jobs shortage, low living standards and corruption as biggest social problems. 
She said 80% of respondents want Armenia to continue developing as a member of CIS, 70% want the country to join European Union and 52% would like to see Armenia within NATO. -0-
