YEREVAN, July 2. /ARKA/. Prices for disposable face masks have dropped significantly, the chairman of Armenian State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition Gegham Gevorgyan said during a government meeting on Thursday.
"Two months ago, during a period of high demand, a large number of masks had been brought to Armenia at a high price, despite the fact that local companies managed to produce them at the price of 60 drams per mask (about 15 cents). As a result, there is a surplus. We now produce more masks than we can sell," said Gevorgyan.
He said a batch of locally-made masks is ready for export and there is an order for another batch. He said also if exports were not allowed, then producers would suffer serious damages, because they would have to sell them at cheaper price, and if exports were allowed, then local masks would be sold at 60 drams, while imported ones are more expensive.
"Within a month, we also expect a new batch of imported masks, which will reduce prices," said Gevorgyan.
Armenian health authorities have reported 593 new cases of Covid-19 over the last 24 hours saying their total number has reached 26,658.
According to the Health Ministry, 6 people have died from coronavirus, four more people with confirmed Covid-19 have died from other causes. -0-
