Armenia’s action plan for reducing greenhouse gas emissions to be ready for government in 2015

The national action plan for reducing greenhouse gas emissions will be submitted to the government for approval in 2015, Armenia’s Minister of Ecology Aramayis Grigoryan said.

YEREVAN, September 8. /ARKA/. The national action plan for reducing greenhouse gas emissions will be submitted to the government for approval in 2015, Armenia’s Minister of Ecology Aramayis Grigoryan said.
A workshop is held in Yerevan on September 8-10 by the secretariat of the UNO framework convention on climate change and Armenia’s ministry of ecology. The workshop is to prepare reports on regional two-year progress for Asia, Pacific region and Eastern Europe.
Armenia signed the framework convention on Climate change in 1992 and ratified it in 1993. As required by the convention, Armenia shall provide a progress report that includes the national cadastre report about greenhouse gas emissions. A national action plan for reducing these emissions should be part of the report.
Since 1992 Armenia has been taking active part in discussions and has contributed to the activities of UN climate change committee, Grigoryan told a press conference on Monday.
Peculiar features of each country should be studied in order to prepare effective programs, the minister said.
According to the minister, Armenia has now managed to overcome the transition and ensure sustainable economic growth. From 1990 to 2010 Armenia proved able to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by three times, and 68% of these emissions is recorded in energy sector today, Grigoryan said.
Some 54 representatives of 47 countries are participating in the workshop to discuss organizational issues, coordination and fund raising. –0--
