Armenia’s birth and death rates down in 9 months of 2022

Armenia’s birth rate in the first nine months of 2022 dropped by  1.3% compared to the same period in 2021, the National Statistical Committee (NSC) said.

YEREVAN, November 7. /ARKA/. Armenia’s birth rate in the first nine months of 2022 dropped by 1.3% compared to the same period in 2021, the National Statistical Committee (NSC) said.

According to NSC’s data, some 26,511 babies were born during the reporting period, down from 26,847 babies born in the first nine months of 2021. When compared to the same period in 2020, when 26,558 babies were born, the birth rate in January-September 2022 was down 0.2%.

Of the babies born in January-September this year, 12,538 were girls, and 13,973 were boys. At the same time, 332 cases of stillbirths were registered during this period, which is 12.4% less than in the same period of 2021 and 0.9% more than in the same period of 2020.

Also, some 20,597 deaths were reported in the first nine months of 2022, an 11.9% decrease from the same period in 2021.

More than half of the deaths (53.8% or 11,091 people) died from diseases of the circulatory system, 4.9% less than during the same period in 2021.

Some 3,863 people (18.8%) died from neoplasms. This number represents 3.6% drop year-on-year.

Other causes of death were respiratory diseases (9% or 1,862 people, up 3.4%), digestive diseases (4.2% or 865 people, down 3.4%), Covid-19 (3.8% or 777 people, down 73.3%).

Thus, the natural population increase in Armenia during the reporting period amounted to 5,914 people or 70.8% of the same period in 2021 and 14% of the same period in 2020. -0-
