YEREVAN, March 29. /ARKA/. Armenia’s National Security Service (NSS) conducted large-scale inspections in the Yerevan Metro, the daily Zhamanak (Time) reports. In an earlier story the daily wrote about serious misappropriations in the Yerevan metro, saying in particular, that the metro’s top managers had been declaring serious losses for many years, receiving huge state subsidies.
According to the daily, the misappropriations were ‘sponsored’ by Ani Gspoyan, a metro official who is in charge of procurements. It says she is the daughter of Edik Gspoyan, the head of a department at the State Revenue Committee (SRC) overseeing large taxpayers. Edik Gspoyan in turn is said to be closely connected with deputy head of SRC Rafik Mashadyan.
According to the newspaper, after the publication of the article, about two dozen NSS officers landed in the administrative building of the metro for conducting large-scale inspections, having sealed some rooms. The daily believes that as a result of the inspections several employees of the State Revenue Committee will be detained and Metro Director Paylak Yayloyan will be dismissed. Yerevan Metro named was commissioned in 1981. Currently, the total length of all metro lines is 13.4 kilometers. --0--
