Armenia’s president Sargsyan condoles over popular scholar Babken Harutyunyan’s death

Armenia’s president Serzh Sargsyan delivered his condolences in a telegram to the family of Professor Babken Harutyunyan who passed away yesterday.

YEREVAN, February 27. /ARKA/. Armenia’s president Serzh Sargsyan delivered his condolences in a telegram to the family of Professor Babken Harutyunyan who passed away yesterday.
Babken Harutyunyan held a position of a deputy chairman of History of Armenia department at Yerevan State University, and was also a corresponding member of Armenia’s National Academy of Sciences.
Earlier, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan ordered to summon a government commission, which will be headed by Academy of Sciences President Radik Martirosyan, for organizing the funeral.
The requiem is to be held on February 27 at 18:00, 4 Charents street, Yerevan. The funeral will be held on February 28.
Babken Harutyunyan was born on 4 March 1941 in Yerevan. He researched ancient and medieval history of Armenia, historical geography, mapping, chronology, and different issues related to Armenian contemporary history.
Harutyunyan was a scholar member of International Academy of Humanities (1988), European Academy of Natural Sciences (2006) and “Ararat” Academy (2001, France). He was awarded Yerevan State University gold medal (1999), “Movses Khorenatsi” medal (2006) and some other ones. -0-
