Armenian Minister proposes to allow retaking driving license exams next day for 45,000 drams

YEREVAN, May 15. /ARKA/. The Armenian Interior Ministry proposes to amend the procedure for retaking driving license exams and digitalizing documents.
"Currently, if a citizen fails to pass the driving test, he can try again in a week. However, there are many applications from citizens who are willing to pay to speed up the procedure," said Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan.
She proposed that if a citizen fails the driving test the first time, they should be given the opportunity to do so the next day for 45 thousand drams. If a citizen wants to retake the exam on the third day, the amount of additional payments is proposed to be set at 30 thousand drams. At the same time, the standard procedure with retaking the test on the 7th day is maintained,” Sargsyan said.
She also proposed that in the case of the second and each subsequent unsuccessful attempt, the opportunity to retake the test should be given not after a month, as stipulated by the current legislation, but on the 7th and 14th days. However, she did not name the amount of the additional payment for this service. The minister also admitted that the schedule for retaking the driver's license may change and be flexible.
“It is also proposed to provide citizens with the opportunity to use digital versions of vehicle registration certificates and driver's licenses in Armenia instead of plastic ones. In the event of a violation of traffic rules in the absence of plastic documents, but with digital ones, this will not be fraught with administrative liability,” Sargsyan said.
She also announced the provision of bonuses for using digital services, without revealing the details.
“Current driver's licenses can also be converted into digital ones. Identification is carried out by first and last name, as well as Face-ID. Vehicle registration certificates can also be obtained by mail for a fee," Sargsyan said.
According to her, other systemic changes in the field of digitalization are also planned. A new digital platform will be created that will synchronize the existing ones.
The minister proposed that the above changes come into force on September 1, 2025. The package of changes will be discussed in the National Assembly.
Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan, in turn, called it logical for exams to be conducted by accredited driving schools. The minister responded that such an option is being considered.-0-
