Armenian armed forces officer accused of treason: he leaked secret information to foreign intelligence service

YEREVAN, January 31. /ARKA/. A court in Yerevan allowed Armenian law-enforcement bodies to arrest an army officer, who, according to the National Security Service (NSS), was "leaking" secret information on weapons purchased from India to a foreign intelligence service.

The NSS said in a press release thta the army officer with the rank of captain was recruited by a foreign intelligence service in early 2021. He continued cooperation with the foreign intelligence service after being transferred to another military unit and appointed head of a service, transmitting information that contained state and official secrets via social networks.

It included information about weapons and armament in the military unit, the location of combat posts, including military equipment purchased in India.

As payment, the officer received money (twice) and a cell phone from a representative of the foreign secret service. He is charged with treason against the territorial integrity and external security of the Republic of Armenia. The officer was indicted and arrested by a court decision. --0-
