Armenian citizens obliged to carry IDs when leaving home
YEREVAN, June 16. /ARKA/. Starting tomorrow, all citizens of Armenia will have to carry an identity document when leaving their homes - a passport, an ID-card or driver’s license, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at a briefing on Tuesday.

He said the decision is made to facilitate police officers' work to issue tickets for failure to wear masks in streets and other public faces as in many cases citizens do not carry IDs.

Therefore, according to the Prime Minister, under the law on administrative offenses, the absence of a passport and violation of the health measures (failure to wear masks)  will be considered separate offenses, each of which will be punished by a fine of 10 thousand drams (about $21).

The prime minister recalled that about 10 days ago the government task force set up to enforce the state of emergency lifted the mandatory wearing of gloves, since, according to new information about the coronavirus, microbes quickly accumulate on them. According to Pashinyan, instead of wearing gloves, it is better to focus on periodic hand disinfection.

The head of government also said that in addition to police, other government bodies are instructed to detect citizens without masks.

“Each squad will include representatives of the police and another state agency, which will give us the opportunity to double the number of groups conducting administrative control,” Pashinyan said.

A 30-day state of emergency to curb the spread of coronavirus was declared in Armenia on March 16 and restrictions were imposed on free movement of citizens. The government banned also some types of economic activity. On April 13, the government extended the state of emergency for another month and on May 4 it lifted the ban on almost all types of economic activity and the free movement of citizens, except for public transport. On May 14, the government has again extended the state of emergency for another 30 days.

However, despite the extension, public transport, preschools, trading centers, restaurants and gyms have reopened starting from May 18, and  wearing of masks has become  mandatory in public spaces.

On June 12, the government has extended the state of emergency for another month- until July 13.

Eight coronavirus patients died at Armenian hospitals in the past twenty-four hours, bringing the total fatalities to 293, according to the  Health Ministry. Also, , 425 new coronavirus cases were identified and 295 patients recovered from the illness. To date, 6,571 patients have recovered from the disease while the total number of the infected stands at 17, 489. -0-
