Armenian customs officers thwart marijuana smuggling attempt

YEREVAN, August 11. /ARKA/. Armenian State Revenue Committee (SRC) said customs officers at Meghri border checkpoint prevented another attempt of smuggling marijuana from neighboring Iran.
It said the marijuana was discovered by sniffer dogs in 2 metal electric pumps which were in a bus driven by a citizen of Iran. Inside the pumps were found metal cylindrical containers with metal valves glued to them.
After opening these metal cylindrical containers, customs officers found out that each container had 5 bags in transparent polyethylene film. They were filled with a yellow-green mass, similar to marijuana, with a total weight of 1,820 grams.
Since the actual recipient of the marijuana was not identified, customs officers placed marijuana-like substances into cylinders and sent them to Yerevan.
On Tigran Metz Avenue in Yerevan, immediately after receiving the metal electric pumps with the substituted substances, S.K., a citizen of Iran, was detained on reasonable suspicion of drug smuggling.
The case was submitted to the Investigative Committee together with the drugs found. Criminal proceedings were initiated in accordance with the relevant article of the Criminal Code of Armenia. -0-
