Armenian Defense Ministry official accused of taking $28,000 in bribes

YEREVAN, February 9. /ARKA/. Armenia's Anti-Corruption Committee said today that it has received evidence that an official of a conscription office in the southern Syunik region received bribes of $28,000 for patronizing conscripts.
In particular, G. G., a resident of Yerevan, agreed with the aforementioned official that in exchange for a $23,000 bribe he would assist in recognizing his son, who was to be drafted in the summer of 2023, as unfit for service on the basis of a fictitious disease.
In another case, through intermediaries, the official received $5,000 from a couple in Kapan whose son was deferred from conscription.
The official was charged with bribery, and the criminal case also involves citizens who paid the bribe and provided the services of the intermediary.
The investigation has been completed, the prosecutor has approved the indictment, and the case has been submitted to the court. -0-
