Armenian government to extend Easter holidays
YEREVAN, April 4. /ARKA/. The Armenian government indicated today it will extend the upcoming Easter holidays by making April 17, which is Monday, a non-working day. Instead, May 6, which is Saturday, will be a working day.

A relevant decision will be adopted by the government on Thursday. The government said the decision is meant to give citizens the opportunity to visit the graves of their loved ones the day after the Resurrection of Christ, which the Armenian Apostolic Church will celebrate this year on April 16.

The Armenia government has been declaring Merelots, (Day for Remembrance of the Dead) as non-working day since 2008. Merelots follows each of the Five Feasts of Lord - Holy Christmas and Baptism, Holy Resurrection of Christ, Transfiguration of the Lord (Vardavar), Assumption of the Blessed Virgin and Exaltation of the Life-Giving Cross of the Lord.

Merlot was announced as a non-working day at the suggestion of the Armenian Apostolic Church. -0-
