Armenian National Statistical Service: list of goods and services in subsistence basket may change

The National Statistical Service of Armenia intends to expand the list of goods and services included in the subsistence basket, Gurgen Martirosyan, chief of the National Statistical Service’s price and international comparison unit, said at a news conference on Tuesday.
YEREVAN, July 3. /ARKA/. The National Statistical Service of Armenia intends to expand the list of goods and services included in the subsistence basket, Gurgen Martirosyan, chief of the National Statistical Service’s price and international comparison unit, said at a news conference on Tuesday.
“We are now monitoring prices for 901 goods and services,” he said. “Already in December we intend to monitor a wider range – some 1,200 goods and services. We will release data for a new subsistence basket in January.”
In his words, after surveying households the service will remove from the list those goods and services revealed to be least popular or will replace them with others.
The cost of the minimal subsistence basket in Armenia in current prices rose 3.9% in the first quarter 2014, compared with the fourth quarter 2013, to 58,404.3 drams in late March.
In the present subsistence basket, per-capita annual consumption of bread is 91.3 kilograms (AMD 40728.9) in the subsistence, meat products 36.5 kg (AMD 93659), potatoes 91.3 kg (20286.9), fruits 73 kg (AMD 34726.1), sugar 18.3 kg (AMD 8337.5), dairy products (AMD 71458), 182.5 eggs (AMD 10785.8), cooking oil 7.3 kg (AMD 5919.6), fish 11 kg (AMD 24053.7) and margarine 3.7 kg (AMD 4180.3).
